Youth Service

Today during sunday school (bible class), i wasnt paying much attention, until David Hung said something like "we must honour GOD", then he went on to give example of how one shopping centre in Singpoare used to be closed on sunday so that it workers can go church. This was set by the founder and they were making a good profit. But when his son takes over, they came out with new business plans and stuff, stating that it would be profitable if they open on sundays too, thus leading to now where it is open on sundays, but who knows it accounts has been in red for the pass 10 years or so... since the sons took over.
Then he when on to say "If we honour God first, then He too will in turn honour us".
But along the discussion, someone commented that today this world is so competitive that everyone in the business world is coming with new ways and methods to attract people. Some churches are also doing it attract new people and keeping the current people of the streets during service time. Stating...." the youth in church now a days wants the drum and all kind of musical instruments, so that they are able to keep the youth attracted"
The church mustnt be like that where u always constantly need new concept to bring new people or keep the people who are already there, but i was thinking if it doesnt change and be like 3 to 4 years ago where everyone including the church is luke-warm,how are the people in the church going to grow in the LORD?? Where at every opportunities the youth had a chance to serve and lead, they turn it down.
(Author notes: Along this discussion, i can't help the feeling that someone is saying this with the youth service in view....that it is only temporary.)
Then it went on to how people in church can pass things down from one generation to another generation, but they cant impose the vision that GOD gave to them in the first place when the church was found to the next generation.
Things like What the BIBLE say must be kept true and followed closely and GOD will lead.
True as it is, but what if GOD showed them another vision to another generation?
The vision that to keep people in church and not to let the youth leave. Thus this youth service thing came up and also with the vision of getting youths to serve and be closer to HIM following HIM closely with Quiet time, prayer, fellowship and service.
Don't they see it that this youth service has been keeping the youths off the arcade or hanging around the basement with nothing better to do then to play some board games or ran around... That this service is a chance for them to learn more about GOD, to serve HIM (eg: CF retreat) and to worship him in singsparation.
If only they could understand that the Youth are much more vibrante and burning with the yearning to serve HIM then compare to say 5 to 6 years back, which by now most of the youth back then had already left, leaving only a handful of us. Ain't it sad?
